Frequently asked questions about eSIM compatibility
The easiest way is to use our compatibility check tool — just enter your phone model for instant confirmation. You can also dial *#06# — if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. On iPhone, check Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM for the corresponding option.
China mainland iPhones do not support eSIM data functionality. Although the hardware has an eSIM chip, policy restrictions prevent China mainland versions from using eSIM to connect to mobile networks. We recommend using an international version iPhone, or consider alternatives like pocket Wi-Fi.
eSIM support starts from iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. All subsequent models (iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 series) support eSIM. The US version of iPhone 14 completely removed the physical SIM slot, requiring eSIM exclusively.
Samsung Galaxy S20 and above (S20, S21, S22, S23, S24) all support eSIM. The Z Fold 3/4/5/6 and Z Flip 3/4/5/6 foldable series also support eSIM. Some China mainland versions may be restricted — international or Hong Kong versions are recommended.
Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked before using eSIM. Contact your original carrier to request an unlock (some carriers offer this for free). Once unlocked, you can install and use eSIM profiles normally.
If your phone doesn't support eSIM, you can choose: 1) Rent a pocket Wi-Fi device; 2) Buy a physical SIM card at your destination; 3) Activate an international roaming plan; 4) Use public Wi-Fi at airports or hotels. Pocket Wi-Fi is great for multi-user sharing and offers good value.
